Eligibility and Selections
TRY-OUT ATTENDANCE FOR IN-COUNTRY PLAYERS
Any player living in the Netherlands must attend at least one tryout, and as many in-country practices as possible, in order to be eligible for selection.
IN COUNTRY TEAM (ICT) SELECTION
ICT is selected after the first try-out and has no set roster size.
NON-DUTCH RESIDENT PLAYER SELECTION
Players interested in MDNT living outside of the Netherlands must meet the following criteria to be considered for an international tournament team:
- You must be eligible to play on a tournament team. The criteria are set by World Lacrosse. If you are a Dutch citizen with a passport, then you are eligible for both Field and Sixes. To qualify for a heritage or exception spot for the Field tournament team (there are no exceptions for Sixes), one of the following must be true:
- You’ve lived in the Netherlands for at least 2 of the past 5 years.
- You are married to a Dutch citizen.
- You were born in the Netherlands.
- Your parents or grandparents are Dutch citizens.
- You must come to *at least* one try-out weekend in the Netherlands. You must notify the coaching staff of your intent to try out and which weekend you’ll attend (mdnt@lacrosse.nl).
- You must come to *at least* one training camp hosted by MDNT.
- Acknowledge that all travel and expenses are covered by players, and that a spot on the roster is not guaranteed, even after attending try-outs and training camps.
- Acknowledge that playing for MDNT is an honor and a privilege, and not an entitlement. We select based on more than just pure lacrosse skill. We consider team cohesion, contribution to Dutch lacrosse, contribution towards growing the game in the Netherlands and in Europe, and the total environment you bring in with you. Ego, negativity, or divisiveness is an immediate disqualifier.
Veteran players living inside or outside of the Netherlands who have recently been on an MDNT tournament team are not required to try out again, but the remaining criteria above still apply. You will need to notify the coaching staff in writing of your interest in joining each upcoming tournament. Depending on the situation and length of time since you last wore orange, we may require you to travel for try-outs. This will be on a case-by-case basis by the coaching staff. We will decide to add you to the MDNT roster after the ICT is selected and all other players are evaluated.
FINAL MDNT ROSTER SELECTION
The final rosters will consist of the best players pulled from the ICT and international players who have satisfied the criteria above. The final Field roster will have 22 players, while Sixes will have 11. The selection criteria may differ between Field and Sixes. The coaching staff will decide on the final roster for a given major tournament after the last training camp prior to the tournament. You may be asked to serve as an alternate in case of last-minute changes to the original roster. Note that making one roster does not guarantee you will be selected for a future roster.
